In this swoony gay YA romance, a boy sets out to win back his first love at a family wedding in an Italian lemon grove.

Ever since he was a kid, Fielder Lemon’s large, opinionated Italian family has lived next to Ricky DeLuca and his large, opinionated Italian family. For almost as long, Fielder and Ricky have been dating—until Ricky breaks up with him right before senior year.

A year later, Fielder hasn’t talked to or seen Ricky once. But when his cousin announces that he’s marrying Ricky’s sister in Italy this summer and he wants the whole family to come, Fielder decides that a wedding in an Italian lemon grove is the perfect setting to rekindle their relationship.

Unfortunately, Ricky has brought his insufferable new boyfriend, Cam, to Fielder and Ricky's romantic reunion. Can Fielder find a way to get Cam out of the picture and win back the boy of his dreams?

He is also a book coach with an MFA in creative writing. He currently lives somewhere with his amazing husband Chris. "Fielder’s theatrical first-person POV gives way to Ricky’s more subdued, self-conscious narration halfway through the novel in a switch that showcases Salvatore’s perceptive grasp of adolescent voices." —Publishers Weekly

"Salvatore’s latest young adult romance takes readers on quite the journey." —Booklist

"A humorous and heartfelt love story about growth, change, and clarity." —Kirkus Reviews

"When Love Gives You Lemons is everything you want in a gay love story paying homage to My Best Friend’s Wedding . . . From the start on page one with the dedication to Julia Roberts, yes the 90s romance icon herself, you know you are in for a treat! Fielder is still grieving his relationship with Ricky, who dumped him the day after his high school graduation even though they have lived their whole lives inseparable; and one year later Fielder is forced to face Ricky again as his cousin is getting married to Ricky’s sister and Fielder is asked to be the best man . . . and oh yeah . . . it’s a destination wedding . . . in Italy. Just a tiny bit romantic. Classified as YA but skewing more new adult; this story is charming and sweet and also sexy and full of laugh out loud one liners; including some fourth wall breaking as the main character speaks to the reader; enemies to lovers, naturally . . . and two big hearted Italian families with larger than life personas . . . I just ate this book up like candy! Couldn’t put it down! It’s an ode to the messiness of life and love, gay love in particular; and how on the outside things can look neat and tidy with a bow but true love is a mess and full of heartbreaks and twists and turns until you can find not only who you’re meant to be with . . . but who you’re meant to be as a person. If your life has been a lemon lately; maybe When Love Gives You Lemons will put a smile on your face . . . It did on mine." —Dallas Strawn, Pelican Books

"If you've read Steven Salvatore before, then you're going to LOVE his new one. And if you haven't read him before, what are you waiting for??!? Fielder and Ricky were best friends before they were boyfriends. But when Ricky graduates high school and leaves for Seattle, dumping Fielder, he is stunned. He's finally gotten mostly back on track when his cousin tells Fielder that he's getting married in three weeks. In Italy. To Ricky's older sister! Fielder comes up with a plan to win back Ricky and he won't let a little thing like Ricky's boyfriend get in the way. This sweet, chaotic romance will have you laughing and sighing with contentment." —Jenn Jones, Bookmiser
