"Hurray, hurray, for Eid day!" A crescent moon hangs low in the pink and purple ombre of a starry twilight sky, signaling the end of Ramadan and the arrival of Eid al-Fitr. In this installment of the "Our Neighborhood" series, this rhyming board book sweetly and succinctly uses a few words per page to describe a Muslim family's Eid celebrations, successfully conveying a great deal of information about the holiday. Syed's bright and joyful illustrations are crisp and boldly colored, depicting the multigenerational family sharing a morning meal, giving children Eidi money, and mother and daughter applying henna designs on their hands. Together, the family leaves home to deliver gifts, visit the graves of loved ones, and attend community celebrations before returning home to enjoy a feast and sweet treats. Various abilities are represented, including family members with a hearing aid and a wheelchair. This board book will be enjoyed by readers who celebrate Eid and those who are curious to learn more.
VERDICT A welcome addition to the limited but growing collection of children's books about this celebration. -School Library Journal
